PRAYER FOR FIRST SATURDAYS
Most holy Virgin a our beloved Mother, we listen with grief to the complaints of your Immaculate Heart surrounded with the thorns that ungrateful people place therein at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. Moved by the ardent desire of loving you as our Mother and of promoting a true devotion to your Immaculate Heart, we prostrate ourselves at your feet to prove the sorrow we feel for the grief that people cause you, and to atone by means of our prayers and sacrifices, for the offenses with which people repay your tender love. Obtain for them and for us the pardon of so many sins. A word from you will obtain grace and forgiveness for us all.

Hasten, O Lady, the conversion of sinners, so they may love Jesus and cease to offend God, already so much offended, and thus avoid eternal punishment. Turn your eyes of mercy toward us, so that henceforth we may love God with all our heart while on earth and enjoy Him forever in heaven. Amen.

Jesus, Savior of the world, sanctify Your priests and sacred miniters.

SIMBANG GABI
The traditional Filipino dawn masses “Simbang Gabi” in Pilipino
or “Misa de Gallo” (Mass of the Rooster) in Spanish, a nine-day
novena to Our Blessed Mother, start on December 15 and
usher in the Christmas Day celebration in the Philippines as well
as to every Filipino family living in the United States. These masses
date back to the 16th century and prepare the faithful during Advent
leading to Christmas or “Pasko”. St. Hedwig Church is among
the parishes designated by the Archdiocese of Chicago to celebrate
“Simbang Gabi”. DOLMA sponsors these masses. Highlights
of the celebration have always been the liturgy where the Christmas
lanterns “parol” of different designs with their dazzling lights are
paraded and displayed on side of the altar, the choir who sings
traditional Filipino as well as American Christmas carols, and a variety
of Filipino Dishes, usually home-cooked. Indeed, the most important
Filipino Christmas tradition, “Simbang Gabi” is very much alive and
has been celebrated in the Chicago Filipino community, especially at
St. Hedwig Church, for more than twenty years.

DOLMA BREAKS INTO THE STORY OF OUR LADY OF MANAOAG
In a cartoon booklet from the Shrine of Our Lady of Manaoag as illustrated by Alex Magsino and Rey Arcilla in Filipino entitled - "Ang Kasaysayan ng Nuestra Senora de Manaoag",the Dolma was cited with the following: "Bukod sa iba't ibang deboto sa panig ng Pilipinas may deboto rin ang Birhen (Dolma) na nasa Chicago, Illinois at iba pang panig ng US na nagsasagawa ng Block Rosary kay Birhen Maria lalo na't buwan ng Mayo" Below this citation is a cartoon illustration of a young girl saying in a very soft voice to Our Lady of Manaoag when Her Image was on a United of States tour - "Pangako ko sa iyo dadalawin kita sa iyong santuaryo."
